Pleasant surprise for Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference

 | National Convention Centre Canberra

It was a very pleasant surprise when we chose the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC).

The premier medical/scientific conference in the Australasian HIV and related diseases sector was on rotation to be held in the nation’s capital in 2017.

Although the conference was already planned for Canberra and there were no contributing factors that influenced the events venue, it was a very pleasant surprise when we chose the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC).

“Working with the team at NCCC provided a fantastic venue experience from start to finish. From the early stages and lead up, the Event Manager Mary was great, any request was actioned immediately; changes to layouts and rooms were easily accommodated. To arriving onsite, the banquet managers Nick S and Nick M were professional, efficient, fast and helpful through the entire conference.” said Amanda Burg, Conference Operations Manager, ASHM.

“The NCCC sure has a niche advantage of exclusive use and its compact layout, having the entire NCCC for our event was exceptionally convenient as delegates could easily navigate through the spaces and the atmosphere made for engagement and networking no matter the areas being occupied. Overall our experience at the NCCC was very positive.” continued Amanda.

One of the programming benefits of holding our conferences in Canberra was the opportunity to tie in political and policy topics relevant to HIV and Sexual Health.

Over 700 delegates attended the 2017 Annual Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference and were a mix of local, national and international representatives from 17 countries around the world, some from as far as Canada and from as remote as Timor-Leste.

The proximity to the Canberra International Airport allows ease of travel to and from the NCCC for delegates. In fact the location to the city centre, hotels, dining precincts and shopping centres is an added bonus for delegates attending conferences at the NCCC.

“We were very happy with the quality, flavour and amount of food served. The menus although not extensive were good and the chef delivered very flavoursome meals, which can be difficult when catering for hundreds of people.” said Amanda.

The nation’s capital has a unique ‘collaboration formula’ that works extremely well for the tourism industry. The Canberra Convention Bureau (CCB) works closely with the National Convention Centre Canberra, together they seamlessly organise unforgettable site inspections, quotes for tendering purposes, share large amounts of local knowledge, and provided maps and ‘what’s on’ programs for conference/event websites.

‘The team at NCCC and CCB were a pleasure to work with for our annual National Conference.’ Amanda Burg, Conference Operations Manager, ASHM.
