National Convention Centre Canberra: Home to UC Capitals Watch live sport in the city’s centre

The University of Canberra Capitals play their first home game right in the heart of the city this Friday night. The new basketball court at the National Convention Centre Canberra is now home for the professional WNBL women’s basketball team.

Fans can watch live basketball games, with some of the best athletes in the world, in the city centre. The Royal Theatre, where the new court is laid has premium comfortable seating, a climate controlled environment and free wifi, perfect for WNBL audiences.

“The new basketball court complements our existing venue spaces, especially given our great city location. UC Capitals fans can enjoy a meal in the city before catching the Friday night game, all within close walking distance. As host venue, the location is very convenient and undercover parking is available for members, teams and public alike” said Stephen Wood, General Manager National Convention Centre Canberra.

Refurbishments at the National Convention Centre this year have further increased the flexibility and diversity of the spaces. The $5.4 million refurbishment, funded by the ACT Government, positions the Centre as a leading contemporary, premium venue. It has the flexibility to host conferences, conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, concerts and now sports games.

The new basketball court is the result of a partnership between the ACT Government and the UC Capitals.

“We are pleased that UC Capitals and the ACT Government could partner in bringing sport to the city. We believe that we have a very competitive team and the new home in the city will be a huge boost for our team.” said Head Coach Paul Goriss.

The National Convention Centre Canberra is part of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with sister property Crowne Plaza Canberra 150m from the Centre.

UC Capitals first home game on the new court at the National Convention Centre is Friday October 6, 2017 - Tip off at 7:30 pm.
