The new basketball court at the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC) is the new home for the UC Capitals WNBL women’s basketball team.

“We are so excited that the UC Capitals have a new home! The National Convention Centre Canberra team have made us so welcome and we love the new court!” said Nat Hurst, UC Capitals Captain.

The WNBL is ramping up throughout Australia with a loyal following; the new home in the city is great for the UC Capitals team and their dedicated fans.

The convenience of the move to the city is great and having a partnership with IHG means that the Crowne Plaza Canberra and the National Convention Centre Canberra (both managed by IHG) work together to make game days seamless. The visiting teams only have to walk two minutes to get to the NCCC on game day.

The ACT Government has pushed strongly to get sport to the city and it is great to be the first team to lead the charge.

“We are pleased that UC Capitals and the ACT Government could partner in bringing sport to the city. We believe that we have a very competitive team and the new home in the city will be a huge boost for our team.” said Head Coach Paul Goriss.

Fans can watch live basketball games, with some of the best athletes in the world, in the city centre. The Royal Theatre, where the new court is laid has premium comfortable seating, a climate-controlled environment and free wifi, perfect for WNBL audiences.

“The new basketball court complements our existing venue spaces, especially given our great city location. UC Capitals fans can enjoy a meal in the city before catching the Friday night game, all within close walking distance. As host venue, the location is very convenient and undercover parking is available for members, teams and public alike” said Stephen Wood, General Manager National Convention Centre Canberra.

Refurbishments at the National Convention Centre Canberra this year have further increased the flexibility and diversity of the spaces. The $5.4 million refurbishments, funded by the ACT Government, positions the NCCC as a leading contemporary, premium venue. It has the flexibility to host conferences, conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, concerts and now sports games.
