For the first time, more than 300 delegates from the Australasian Society of Association Executives will hold their national conference and exhibition in Canberra, recognising the capital’s value as a major business destination.
The Australasian Society of Association Executives (AuSAE) will host 'ACE 2016' (24 to 25 May) at the multiple award-winning National Convention Centre Canberra, part of InterContinental Hotels Group—IHG. In doing so, executives will experience first-hand the Centre’s new refurbishment ($5.4 million over two years), and be introduced to an innovative menu inspired by the region’s local produce.
The choice of Canberra for ACE 2016 is further evidence that the association sector is booming in the ACT, says Dean Jones, Director of Regional Sales, Australasia for IHG.
'Canberra is well and truly on the map as a "go-to" city for business events,' says Dean. 'It’s an attractive and competitive city. Delegates and organisers find the size of the capital easy to manage, with the National Convention Centre in a prime, central location, and Crowne Plaza Canberra, the capital’s largest hotel, just a two-minute walk away. National cultural institutions are also close. So too are the city’s business districts, Lake Burley Griffin and shopping and foodie precincts.'
The National Convention Centre Canberra has a 2,460-seat auditorium, four tiered-seat theatres, an exhibition hall, ballroom, and other smaller meeting rooms. It’s highly suitable for mid-sized association conferences (500 to 1200 delegates). In the past 12 months, the Centre was the venue of choice for more than 320 conferences, meetings and events. It now has a new look, with the foyer, carpet and overall aesthetics greatly enhanced.
Nikhil Jain, Executive Chef, will showcase menus inspired by innovative local produce, including interactive cooking stations where the delegates meet the Chefs.
ACE 2016 will bring together some of the top leaders and professionals from across Australasia, including speakers Holly Ransom, CEO of Emergent Solutions; Steve Vamos with more than 30 years’ experience in the information technology and online media industry; and Wendy McCarthy, Deputy Chair ABC, Chancellor of the University of Canberra.
